Abstract The $W$ boson mass is determined together with parton density distributions in combined electroweak and QCD fits using all $e^+p$ and $e^-p$ scattering data collected by the H1 experiment from 1994 to 2000. When the fit is performed interpreting the $W$ boson as a propagator exchanged in the $t$ channel of charged current interactions, a propagator mass value of $M_{ m prop}=82.87\pm1.82{ m [exp]}^{+0.30}_{-0.16}{ m [th]}$\,GeV is obtained. Assuming the validity of the Standard Model, the fit leads to a more precise determination of $M_W=80.701\pm 0.205{ m [exp]}^{+0.063}_{-0.098}{ m [th]}$\,GeV. The neutral current data at high $Q^2$, the negative four-momentum transfer squared, have also been exploited to obtain a first determination of the weak couplings of the light quarks to the $Z$ boson at HERA.
