Abstract The cross section of radiative neutral current deep inelastic positron-proton scattering, where a photon is emitted in the direction of the incoming positron, is measured in the kinematic range 0.5 < Q^2 < 15 GeV^2 and 10^-5 < x < 10^-3. The data was recorded in 1997 and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 15 pb^-1. The variation of the incoming positron energy due to initial state radiation allows for measurements in a different kinematic regime than accessible up to now.
