Abstract First results on the proton structure function F 2(x,Q^2) measured with the VLQ (Very Low Q^2) spectrometer of the H1 experiment at HERA are presented. The VLQ spectrometer detects electrons at very small scattering angles. It consists of two identical modules each containing a tungsten-scintillator sandwich calorimeter and a silicon strip tracker. Based on data collected in 1999 results on the proton structure function F 2(x,Q^2) are obtained in the kinematic region 0.068 < Q^2 < 0.4 GeV^2 and 10^-6 < x < 5*10^-4.
