Abstract First results on the proton structure function F 2(x,Q^2) measured with the VLQ (Very Low Q^2) spectrometer of the H1 experiment at HERA are presented. The VLQ spectrometer which detects electrons at very small scattering angles consists of two identical modules each containing a tungsten-scintillator sandwich calorimeter and a silicon strip tracker. Based on data collected in 1999 the proton structure function F 2(x,Q^2) is presented in the kinematic region 0.1 < Q^2 < 0.4 GeV^2 and 10^-6 < x < 3*10^-5.
